The Power Of Speech

Note From the Editor:
I'm really sorry girls for not posting anything for a while. I have moved from my home near Port Macquarie to Murwillumbah near Tweed Heads. This move has made my life really busy as I have started grade 11 at a Tweed Valley Adventist College. I will try my best to be more present on this website and write as often as I can.

Blog:
Last night I was about to fall asleep in my bed when I heard footsteps walking to my door, then my door opened. This frightened me as everyone else was in bed asleep. I walked to the door cautiously and peered around to see if anyone was there... but there was no-one. I went to my parents' room and woke them up and Dad came and looked with me around the house to see if anyone was there, but there wasn't.
When I went to bed I couldn't sleep so I got out my bible, turned on my light, and started to read from James chapter 3. I will post some verses and talk about them;
3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
These verses show the obedience of the tongue is similar to horses with bits in their mouths, and great ships turned by a small till. It also likens the tongue to a fire, that begins by a small spark, but grows very quickly. This tongue begins iniquity, defiles the whole body, and can drag us down into the fire of hell.
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
Do we, in our everyday lives, profess to be Christians but show the speech of the unconverted? Do we try to bless the Lord through praise and fellowship on Sabbath, and then shun others, speak unkindly, and swear against our fellow men? How can we be professed Christians and do this? our speech is a blessing from God. We must not abuse it.
Let our speech be pure, as it comes from the storehouse of our heart.

This can be very hard, especially when your friends at school swear and blaspheme, we need to ask God to help us 'filter' our minds, so that we don't get used to this, or even worse, do it ourselves. Jesus, talks about the power of the tongue, and how we need to learn how to control it, it is a battle for all of us, whether it is swearing and blaspheming or even just talkign too much! :l (Thats me) :l
But... we're all on a journey, so we all need His help! :)
